Can Yahoo Remain A Viable Company?
Yahoo, once the flourishing example of a technology giant, isn't doing as well as it once was. Some analysts and experts are even questioning the company's viability in the years to come, with the most pessimistic predicting a funeral within the next half of a decade. However, there's also plenty of controversy on that, and Yahoo may not be doing as poorly as you think.
It's certainly a fact that Yahoo is on the decline in several departments. For one, their employee count has been cut, with the layoff of somewhere between 600 and 700 employees. This even resulted (we all suspect) in some temporary site glitches, such as the linking of images on the Yahoo home page to a pornographic image.
This all came at the tail end of several technology forfeitures as well. Yahoo had already abandoned their advertisement management, and handed their search engine results management to Bing on a silver platter. Shortly after the layoffs, a leak also indicated that the company would be hacking and slashing at projects that weren't profitable " and that there were about a dozen of these in all.
So, yes, there are reasons to be skeptical about Yahoo's position. Nonetheless, it would be folly to ignore the strengths that Yahoo has shown recently. For one, Yahoo and Bing combined now have about a quarter of the search market, which is a substantially stronger footing than either company had on their own. Yahoo's cuts, while significant, also don't represent poor business strategy; quite the reverse, they show that the company is willing to adapt and shed dead skin.
The recent results for Yahoo haven't been bad at all. Beyond seeing solid success in a number of their properties, Yahoo has also remained a tough competitor in the search engine game, seeing a three percent increase in market share during November.

Yahoo is declining in most units. For one, the number of employees has been cut, and the layoffs will be somewhere between 600 and 700 employees. This has also caused some temporary site defects, such as linking of images.
